Display Ads Audience Targeting

Audience Targeting allows you to select who your Display Ads are shown to. Depending on your advertising objective, you can choose to either maximise awareness , target your desired audience or automatically target high potential shoppers based on system prediction.


What types of audience targeting are available?

Shopee currently offers three types of audience targeting for Display Ads.

  1. Broad Targeting: Select this option to drive mass awareness of your promotions among shoppers, by displaying your ads to a wider audience.
  2. Custom Targeting: Select this option to display your campaign to a customised user segment with your chosen demographics (age group, gender) and categories
  3. Auto Targeting: Select this option to drive higher engagement (with a higher predicted click-through rate), by automatically displayiny your ads only to relevant shoppers who are interested in your shop or similar shops.


How do I set the target audience for my Display Ad?

From the Shopee Ads page on Seller Centre:

  1. Click on “+ Create New Ads” and select “Display Ads”.
  2. Input your campaign name, time length and budget.
  3. Select your preferred audience targeting under the Audience section.
  4. You can check your campaign’s Estimated Expense (excluding tax) under the “Results” panel on the right.
  5. The Estimated Expense is calculated based on the Estimated Impressions for the selected duration and the Guaranteed CPM. It will differ depending on your audience selection.
  6. Select your billing information from the dropdown list.
  7. Click “Publish”.



Can I activate Auto Targeting for an ongoing Display Ad campaign?

No, you cannot edit an ongoing Display Ad campaign. Changes to campaign settings can only be made during the campaign edit window (at least 7 days before the campaign starts). 


Can I change the audience selection after publishing a Display Ad?

Yes, you can change your audience selection up to 7 days before the campaign starts. The “Results” panel on the right will display the updated Estimated Impressions, Estimated Expense and Guaranteed CPM accordingly.


Can I select different audiences within one Display Ads campaign? 

No, you can only make one audience selection per Display Ads campaign, and the selected audience will be applied to the entire campaign period. To target different audiences on different days, you can split the Display Ad booking and create different campaigns for different days.
